High School Flashback

Time for some humiliation fun!

Where should I begin..........the giant irridescent bow, the perfectly dyed to match shoes, the bright pink nails, that poof on my head or those sleeves?? Let's pause a moment to take it all in. Now, please, stop laughing I have more entertainment pics for you!

Don't ya just love the background on all of these? It's all so breath taking. Now to dissect some more.

What exact shade of white would you say I am? Good thing I live in Florida or else I'd be really white. And for whatever reason, the photographer would not let my hand be on top....didn't he know I had beautiful pink nails to show off. Really, he wouldn't let me. I moved my hand after he posed us and he came back and changed it. Chauvinist pig!!

Look! I got a tan while walking from station 1 to station 2. I love Florida! This picture was in one of those plastic key chains. You remember them, go ahead admit it! Finally, you can see my beautiful nails. Don't you love how we're not looking directly at the camera.....it makes it seem like such a candid picture - not posed!! Let's move on.......

Senior Prom! The theme: "Moonlight & Roses". What? You didn't get that from the background? What do I love about this one? The natural pose, of course. I always stand by my man like that! Again, I'm a little white and I still couldn't get away from that shade of pink nail polish. At least my hair poof is a little smaller. And I only have partial bangs - love it!!

The funniest thing in this picture is the story of my man's vest. He went and picked it out All. By. Himself. And then he told his Mom and I that he picked out a vest with "silver spermy things" on it. I was sooooo dreading what I would see when he picked me up. Apparently, "silver spermy things" is man code for paisley!!

Well, that's enough humiliation fun for today!

Great photos! Spermy things--LOL. I so forgot about those shoes that you could die to match. They were all satiny and got snags the second you even looked at them.

I am pretty sure I have a few of those photos hidden away somewhere!

Loved it! The hair, the poofy dresses, the extremely awkward poses, the cheesy backgrounds! And yes, I had a plastic photo keychain.

I. love. your. blog. Seriously. It's bookmarked now and everything.

These pictures are hysterical, and yet eerily familiar. I know those bangs. I used to aquanet mine up and then use the hairdryer to really set the hairspray. *shudder*

I can practically hear the Pretty In Pink soundtrack.

Kristen said...

Is that the same guy in all the pics? I'm impressed. Way to stand by your man!

Love the hair, the bow, the whole thing!
Thanks for playing along and good luck on the Atari giveaway!

Tammy said...

Wow, the first photo.... the shiny dress and all. Had my ADD attention for at least a minute, then I had to refocus to read the rest of your post! Funny!

j said...

OK, yes the bow was, um, yeah.

But how cool that all of your prom pics are with YOUR MAN. Your forever man. I just love a love story like that.

Regardless of the style, you were Gorgeous!

Be blessed.

The bow on the green dress is killing me! I think I had the same one in coral....

Bahama Shores Mama said...

Did the dyed shoes dye your feet? That was always happening to me!

Sue Wilkey said...

OMG that is hilarious (sorry). But we all did it, and at the time, looked in the mirror and said "Oh, yeah."

Anonymous said...

Oh dear! "Silver spermy things". Spermy is not a word that was allowed in our house, missy!

TJ said...

LOL Silver Spermy things... I admit paisley looks that way to me too!

I remember my friend had almost the exact same dress as your first photo! Why exactly were those fashionable???

I thought you two looked good in the second set of photos.

Oh and they were Penny Loafers! I still have em to this day! My parents paid $50 for them and made me swear to wear them and take care of them.

Ann(ie) said...

OMG!! How adorable were you??? What a fun flashback. I was never that skinny. ever.

Oh, I love old pictures and these are great!

I always say, if you changed your hair since these old pictures then your doing good! If not well we should talk.

How did iridescent bows EVER go out of style, again?

Thanks for sharing! It makes all of my photos feel all the better.

Sandra said...

Why oh why did we all curl our hair and spray it with the curling iron still in it? Then... NOT BRUSH IT OUT!

I cringe every time I look at old photos.

Esther said...

I'm so glad that I seemed to have missed the worst of the 80's. Instead I can laugh at my sisters' photos.
I hope the photos were from the
80's or you've got some explaining to do.
OK, I guess tha 90's had some fashion crime too!

Eve said...

OMG - Silver Spermy Things?
I nearly fell out of my chair from laughing!!!

Really, the photos aren't as bad as you might think. The backgrounds are a bit cheesy, but typical of all school dances. And the dresses were, well, that WAS the style (at least you don't have to admit to being a clothing designer) - and the blue is a really pretty color. Luckily for you, YOU look great. MY dance photos on the other hand... well, that's another story!

trash said...

That was some serious hair happening there huh? Loving the bling clothes though.

I agree, the first dress is the bestest!

LOL at "silver spermy things"!!!!!

I loved looking at your photos. I should see if I can dig up mine...I had a crazy hairdo for one dance that I wouldn't be caught dead wearing ever again. :)

Heather said...

You've got way more guts then I do. You won't be seeing the prom or homecoming pictures of the hubby and I any time soon! The sperm thing is so something my husband would say, too funny!!

Kimmie said...

How sweet that you've been together for so long. Thanks for sharing those pictures.

Ha! Great pics! Loved the commentary to go with them.

I have the same exact pictures--well, almost the same! Do they still make kids do this at dances?!

Heather said...

Those are great! I love 'man speak' when it involves clothing descriptions. Spermy things lol!

Michelle said...

Wow. Our prom didn't have such ummm lovely background or repeated photos. Truly impressive. And that bow. Wow. I love it. I'm not going back to look at any of my pictures for certainty that they'll embarrass me! But I know in what decade you went to high school....

Hey--I call paisleys "sperm-a-ma-jigs!" I get your husband...I do.

So fun! I think you looked totally cute. It's hard to get away with those retro fashions. I just think it's so neat the same guy is in every picture and you married him. Cue "Stairway to Heaven."

Heather said...

haha. the memories...

i actually am not ashamed of my prom/homecoming pictures (at least not yet). now if you were to ask me about my sister's...she probably would be embarrassed... :)

Smoochiefrog said...

Those are great! When did you graduate? Those look like late 80's early 90's duds. (I have my own poofy hair prom pic from 91 myself.)

Heather said...

I would've killed for prom pictures like these, seriously!

My junior year, one of the chemistry teachers took all the prom pictures. She was *not* a professional photographer, by the way... So, she had us stand in front of a large window that had sheer curtains in front of it, and set up some lights behind her.

The end result? The lights showed up reflected in the glass behind us on either side, so it looks like some Truck of Doom is barreling towards us as we unknowingly stood there grinning for the camera. Oh, and she only shot in black and white, so the gorgeous, iridescent pink of my first ever prom dress is a flat, boring gray forever and ever in posterity...........

Then, senior year, we didn't even have the chem teacher to photograph us, so NO pictures at all!

Good thing my dad took a few rolls of my date and me before each of the proms, WHEW. Wouldn't want those crimes of fashion escaping undocumented out of the 80s...

Cheers!

Those are great memories! Don't worry, I'm not laughing- my Mom still has photos of me with semi-buzzcut hair that was dyed an orangey-yellow color. I have vowed not to laugh at anyone else's "pouf" after that hair mistake!

Have a great day, and congrats on being SITS featured!

Great pictures! Photographers always have this skill for most unnatural poses, don't they? I have a few pictures of me on my wedding day where our photographer got me to stand "just so" and photographed the dress from a variety of angles. I look like I have cramps! Heh!

I posted my prom picture from 1988 on my blog recently. I went with my high school crush. And he thought we were just friends. Recently, I tracked him down and told him that I was going to blog about that day...and about my lust for him...and I asked him how to pronounce some Greek recipe. He totally ignored my "confession" and just went on and on about the cooking. He must have been gay.

Thanks for those great pics. I never went to a prom nor did I go to schools that did that sort of thing. It's probably an American thing.

Very funny. Good thing is, we all have those shots in our past, so we can only laugh so much before we remember our own humiliating photos and then we have to SHUT up.

My personal fave is the first one. I don't know whether it was the bow or the sleeves or the entire ensemble, but it was (I can't find the words).
