Gnome-napper on the Loose!!

What is wrong with people??

We had 2 gnomes in our front yard and someone stole them! Are you kidding me? Why?

They were here last night when we got home around 10:30 and when my hubby came back home this morning he noticed they were gone. I am sooooo mad! And now, I'm also mad that I don't have a picture of them! ERRR!!

Listen here gnome-napper, I will hunt you down and hurt you. You've been warned!

The Gnome Story

Once upon a time there were 2 little gnomes. For years, they had the best life. These gnomes were loved by my husband's grandparents. They lived next door to my hubby growing up (the gnomes and the grandparents). Until a few years ago. When they moved (the grandparents). The gnomes were left behind. They were very sad. Every time we saw them in the yard, they just cried pathetically and begged to come be with their family. One day, one of the brave little gnomes made his escape. He climbed over the fence, right into my hubby's arms. He was so happy. The gnome. Well, my hubby, too.

But, the other gnome, he was not as brave. He just stood in the middle of the yard, crying and whining to my mama-in-law every time he saw her. "Please, please rescue me," he would yell, "I miss my family!" wahwahaaahahwah "No, gnome. You have to stay with your new family," my mama-in-law would say, "unless your brave enough to run away." For over 3 years, he just stood there and cried but could never muster up the courage to escape.

Then, finally his day came. He had been abandoned by his new family. Mama-in-law noticed this and rushed over to rescue the gnome. He was so happy. Mama-in-law told him that she was gonna take him some place special and that he would be reunited with his other gnome friend. She brought him to my hubby and he was so happy.

My hubby placed his beloved gnomes in the front yard to live happily ever after. Until last night. When some moron stole them.

Ugh, I know how you must feel...we've dealt with theft recently and it's purely selfish and evil! Karma will get them! I'm so sorry!

Bahama Shores Mama said...

ummmm, I don't know anything for a fact, but that donkey pulling a cart and showing it's A$$ over near The Keeper of All Things' house looked mighty suspicious!

Were they two boy gnomes? Maybe they went to California to be legally married?

Queen-Size funny bone said...

Hopefully the little guys will find their way home. I also had a Gnome napping and am constantly on the look out for my little guy.Love the story...

Keeper Of All Things said...

Hey are you talking about my a$$ loving nieghbor? LOL Really there was a big fight over there. And his cart was tipped over. LMAO

Anonymous said...

I didn't take your little guys!! But right now I wish I had so I could hold them hostage for a family picture. My mind is really running now!HMMMM, what can I take.

Anonymous said...

LOL...I'm sure my brother is completely distraught and sizing up everyone he knows thinking they napped the gnomes. Remember that Dad was in town the night they went missing. Tell him to take a drive and see if they're now in his yard.

Unknown said...

Just came over from SITS...

Did you put a sign in the yard announcing their kidnapping...and demand they be returned??

-Bridget said...

Aw, that sucks!

Cheeky Kitchen said...

Oh, Waahhh. We just had our pumpkins stolen last night. The kids were horrified.

What is it with peeps these days?!

Anyhow, congrats on your SITS day! Hope it's fabulicious!

Sandra said...

OMG! I wish I had the gnomes!

All this dialogue is hilarious!

Sarah said...

Hopefully they will turn up soon. I loved the dialogue.

Esther said...

Maybe they've gone for a trip and you'll get postcards. It was very rude of them though to not even say goodbye and make you worry like that.

Eve said...

Oh, poor gnomes! We'll hope they get to do some fun traveling rather than the dark alternatives (being held hostage or kept in a stuffy closet).
Hopefully they will find their way back to their family!

Givinya De Elba said...

What is WRONG with some people? Gnome Napping.

It looks strangely wrong spelled like that doesn't it? Maybe "gnome" should drop the silent 'g' when immediately followed by 'napping' - Nomenapping. Yeh. Let's do that. You tell the dictionary people.

Buttons and Dots Photography said...

Maybe they escaped again! Have you done something to them that might make them want to run away? LOL Too cute!

Anonymous said...

That just bites!

Bramblemoon Farm said...

Grrrrrrr...may the rotten gnome napper have boils on their butt until they return them. What nasty people.

Unknown said...

HA! Boils on their butts! That's quite the curse....the gnomes should be home any day now!

Astrid in Bristling Acres said...

I came here from SITS. Gnome napping! What will they think of next? :(

I also wonder if you'll be getting postcards from around the world.

Melanie Dickens said...

How bored can people be? To steal your gnaome off of your front yard. That is just insane.

Kimmie said...

How cute is that story. I can't believe people have nothing better to do then steal gnomes.

jewelstreet said...

Who steals gnomes?! Seriously.

Heather said...

Great story. Who knew garden gnomes could have such an deep family history! Stinks that someone stole them! I hope they find their way home!

Michelle said...

I'd start my comment by what's wrong with people except that was your original question. And I don't have an answer. What a bummer!

Creative Junkie said...

Maybe they up and left to go see the world with the Roaming Gnome from Travelocity?

larkswing said...

I had two ferns stolen right out of the outside pots . ..I guess I never thought of people who liked plants and garden decor as the thieving sort.

May the gnome kidnappers feel very quilty and bring them back home!

Cute story and how dare them still you Gnomes!!! Have a Happy SITS day in the spotlight!!

Unknown said...

Congrats on your SITS day! Maybe they are 2 wild and crazy gnomes and they have gone to pick up gnome chicks?

Ginny said...

Oh that sucks, people are SO weird aren't they! My grandma had given me one just like hers. I loved it & I actually have kept it inside for this very reason. I am so afraid of it getting stolen, lol.

Happy SITS day!

Blicky Kitty said...

Congratulations on your SitS day! Maybe you should call Travelocity and see where they were on the night in question between 1 and 3 am.

Alright, once you find the thieves, call me. I know people who can 'take care of' people like that. Oh, yeah, I've got connections!

If they've done it once, they will escape and come back to you!

Pamela said...

Maybe they saw the traveling gnome and decided to join him...have you received any pics of them on vacation? Happy SITS day!

Ashley. Unscripted... said...

Oh no! In my neck of the woods someone wouldn't bother to steal them, but they would take the trouble to put them in naughty positions so your child freaks out, "Mommy! What is that gnome doing to that other gnome?? Is it hurting it??"

I'm here from SITS, hope you have a great SITS day!

Margaret said...

Aww what a sweet story of how they found thier way to your yard. Hope it has a happy ending.

koopermom said...

Ugh. Gnome stealers. Next thing oyu know, you'll be getting pictures of them on vacation, or ransom notes! (That's what happened to us in college). Hope they eventually find their way home!

I'll admit it. I did it. I had to have your cute little gnomes.

How much are they worth to you?

Happy SITS day!

Bad gnomenappers!

Ronnica said...

Your blog is the same colors of the curtains I had in my bedroom just last year. I think they look better on a blog!

This post reminds me of Gilmore Girls, as one of the characters stills a gnome in an episode, and they all call the gnome by name.

Paige said...

Here is a sad admission by me--in high school, I was party to a concrete rabbit napping. It is still on my mom's back porch, which makes me suspect that she knows full well we stole it and 2o years later is still guilting me.

I am sorry about your gnomes. Maybe you should think they went to play on a farm where they could run and play?

Jaden Paige said...

Gnome-nappers suck. Hands down. Hope the gnomes make an escape again and re-appear in your yard!

Mama Bear said...

Maybe they decided to make their escape to a new and distant land and had been making the arrangements for years. Who knows? Dumb people though for sure.

Unknown said...

Happy SITS Day! Your Gnome-Gnappers will certainly get what's coming to them!

cat said...

Gosh, that sounds like South Africa! Here everything can and will get stolen. Maybe they are traveling around the world? Remember the Gnome in "Amelie"?

Elizabeth said...

That is sad! :( Last Christmas someone stole Mary from a nativity at our shopping center. That was sad too; they had a "Please bring Mary back" sign posted next to Joseph the whole rest of the season.

a simple seeker said...

I second the sign in the yard demanding their triumphant return. :)

Mandy said...

Geez! I can't believe that. Congrats on your FB day!

Anonymous said...

I hate that your gnomes went missing. I have had a couple of those chain letters hit my e-mail talking of college students that swiped gnomes then returned them years later with photo albums of their journey. So sadly, there is bound to be a rise in gnome napping. Maybe in a few years you will receive them back and a photo album to go with? Congrats on your SITS day!

Marrdy said...

I hope my oldest son wasn't in the area. He has a "thing" for Gnomes!

Carrie Thompson said...

Hey has anyone confessed yet? Have the gnomes been returned? replaced? ever heard from again??? I gotta know!

I hate to laugh...it's not right...but maybe your Gnomes will be like the famous Gnome that went all around the world and then the napper would send pictures back of the Gnome in all these sniffy places...maybe your Gnome is off to be a world traveler....wouldn't that be interesting....

Anonymous said...

this story reminds me of the king of the kill epi where peggy got a gnome and it was "stolen"

Annikke said...

Over the summer some kids (I think it was kids anyway) took little yard lights from someone's yard and placed them in our yard. My husband walked the streets knocking on doors trying to find the owner because he said he would have been really ticked if something from our yard was stolen. We never did find the owners though. Sorry 'bout your poor gnomes.

Anonymous said...

Thats not very nice :( I hope that they come back.

April Kennedy said...

We visited an older lady who was sick and lonely. After our third visit with our family, she told us to take one of her ceramic squirrels that she had EVERYWHERE in her yard.

Now I am very particular about "things" in my yard and thought I could leave without her noticing me NOT taking one, but NOPE...she yelled out her window...take a squirrel!

That squirrel has sat in our yard now, up on the fence rail for 5 years...I would die if someone stole that ugly a$# thing!

Heather said...

Bad enough to have stolen gnomes but then to know there was a story behind them!

Unknown said...

Aww sorry your brave gnomes got stolen. People are sick. Hope they break free and come home soon.

You know that the Wee Folk don't take kindly to evil-doers, especially where their kin is concerned- they will be cursed & haunted by the Great Banshee (or else come down with a terrible case of leaf mold!)

Poor gnomes. You don't think that they might have seen something shiny and that they went to investigate? I know I can get distracted by shiny things...

Anonymous said...

That was a cute telling of the gnome story. I'm so sorry that someone stole them. I hope karma comes back around to get your gnome thieves. :(

ChezChani said...

That is a very sad story. People are horrible. My neighbour was stealing my water!

That is exactly why our new gnome friend hasn't made it out to the garden...I let him sit in the window sill though:)

I hope you find them!

Was there a ransom gnote? Sorry...lame I know. So glad I found your blog from SITS. Not cool when other people take your stuff. Maybe your gnomes will need to reside in the back yard from now on.

That is horrible, especially since they are a family treasure.

Tabitha Blue said...

That is just crazy how people will take stuff like that!! I remember when I was a kid and we set up a Nativity scene outside for Christmas... one night, baby Jesus was stolen from the manger!!!! I was traumatized!! :)

angie said...

Isn't that a 'thing?' People steal gnomes and take pictures of them and send the pics to you? Hmph, kids.

nikkicrumpet said...

Is there in life form lower than a gnome napper??? I don't think so! Hopefully the ransom will be cheap and you'll get the little nuggets back!

Melodie said...

That's terrible! It's one thing to have someone steal from you, but it's even worse when it is something so special to you.

I hope your gnomes suffocate their abductors in their sleep and then find their way home to you and your hubby.

Laural Out Loud said...

How awful! Especially after the story you told. Maybe they ran off for a wee adventure and will soon be back.

Hi!
I came over from SITS today. That's terrible about the poor gnomes ~ someone would have to be pretty low to gnome-nap! It reminds me of one of my favorite movies "Amelie" where the gnome goes on vacation. Maybe that's where they've gone and will return?? :) I hope so!
Hugs, Bebe :)

You might get some postcards from them soon. I saw a craze in the UK where people take them travelling all over the world then return them with happy snaps.

Found your site on SITS.

Anonymous said...

That's just wrong - those were "Family Gnomes," not your everyday run-of-the-mill gnomes!!! Did you report the kidnapping? Seriously, in my little local paper they list things stolen from people's yards. Someone stole my Evil Eye Halloween lights, waaah! Happy SITS Day :)

Holly said...

...and not even a ransom note! Huh. Are you sure maybe the gnome didn't run away? :)

They weren't stolen...they're out doing the Travelocity commercials making big bucks for you. They better come home with free tickets to Italy or something!

I knew a girl who stole gnomes and took polaroids of them all over the neighborhood before returning them to their owners along with the pictures in the mailbox.
